In the middle of a very high speed windstorm here...over 60 mph...second
time in three weeks! Last time, I lost a 40 year old, 45 foot spruce
tree! Luckily, it just missed my house, but wiped out my grill! <G>
So, I'll try to get this email out before the power fails...been saving
it every few seconds, just to be sure! The radio says that the
temperature has gone from 53 degrees to the current 27 in about 30
minutes!
And I got to drive through this to get to the hospital for another
treatment today!
Enough of my problems...on to the videos...
Hmmm...Windows Media has always been able to run AVI files for
me...maybe there is an upgrade that you should get? I'm using Windows
Media version 9, with no problems. Just tried it with the free graphic
editor, Irfanview ( www.irfanview.com <http://www.irfanview.com> ),
and it works fine with that as
well. BTW...for anyone who doesn't want to use Windows Media, Irfanview
also reads the WMV files without a problem as well.
As far as retrieving the file you mention, it appears to already be in
wmv format, but I can't download it, and it won't play from the website.

And, finally, after spending a couple of hours playing with the
boing-boing vid, I'm sorry, I wasn't able to improve it...there are too
many places where the characteristics of the image vary too much for a
general correction. A correction on one frame makes a few frames later
worse.
Guess it's as good as it can get until we find a higher resolution,
better quality version of it to work with.

After I sent that message I bought Ulead VideoStudio 11 and converted
the TV captured video to a wmv. For some strange reason Firefox does
not recognize
it as a wmv. It works fine in Ulead and Windows Media Player. I copied
it to a USB
flash drive and moved it to the Linux machine. I then uploaded it to
the web site
and the funny stuff started when I tried to access it with Firefox.
As far as I can tell Ulead can not import a TV video file off the hard
disk.
It must import it from the Samsung DVD that captured the file from
the TV.
Apparently this video stuff has a ways to go before it is rock solid.
It would help if the Samsung DVD recorder put out wmv directly.
I am redoing it once again.
The first one Andy did is working fine. I don't know what program Andy
used
to convert if from the TV video format to wmv. He was obviously able
to load
the TV format off of his hard disk directly.
This video situation is still a mess. There does'nt appear to be any
standardization.
Windows XP is still buggy and being upgraded on a weekly basis. I get
these
pop ups that tell me I need to "upgrade" the Windows OS from time to
time. Each time
this is done it appears to bust some old programs. I do not want to
risk busting
Rhino. I refuse to hook my Windows computer to the Internet
because of the virus situation so Microsoft can't go in the back door
and upgrade my Windows XP OS every week. This also means I cannot buy
a program
that require Internet activation such as Pinnacle Video Studio. I object
to the obscene invasion of privacy anyway inherent in "Activation".
The Windows situation is chaotic.
I have five and ten year old Linux program still working fine on the
latest version
of the Linux OS. My wife now uses a Mac and it is hassle free. She
says she is so
relieved to be out from under the whole Windows mess. She feels like a
weight has been lifted from her shoulders. The Mac is running BSD Unix.
Apparently Vista is every bodies worst night mare. Looks like I am at the
end of the line as far as Microsoft is concerned. I'll run Rhino
as long as I can.
OK the second video now appears to be working. Please check it for me.
I dont know what happened on the first go around. Perhaps I will figure
it out as I have a VTOL video and a HP video to yet to upload.
