Subject: E-SHAFT CENTER FEED OIL?

Paul,
I was doodling the other day and I wonder if there is really any need
for a center feed oil input? This was something that we did talk about
in the past. Not really pressing for lower RPMS but a real possibility
though. I'v attached 3 jpegs which show the idea. The guessed at e-shaft
shows an end opening oil galley. There is a pressed in plain bearing in
the bore similar to a cam bearing. The feed is through a central steel
tube fitted to plain bearing tolerances with a ground OD. The plain
bearing would allow a feed input to the center of the e-shaft. There is
a clamp on the outside that would have a spacer to a square surface on
the front of the block to prevent rotation.


The end of the tube is fed
by an AN fitting and hose from the oil pump. The standard large oil seal
would seal the outside of the e-shaft as usual and a small seal would
seal around the tube itself. The oval slot throu the shaft allos the oil
that escapes the front end of the plain bearing to escape into the sump.
That is low pressure oil. Several bikes use a tiny cap over the ends of
the crank with a small drain hole and they seal great. So  there it is,
this would allow much lower oil pressures so the oil pump wouldn't need
to fight the centrifugal force when the e-shaft is orbiting. If there is
any interest I could develop this further.

If you are doing a 11,000 RPM race engine I would definitely recommend it.
Porsche has been doing it for years. The stock e-shaft oil feed  passage
drilling's are working against the oil pressure at high RPM due to
centrifugal force. Every RPM counts in a race.
