I made the serious serious mistake of going on line?
with my windows computer for just a few seconds?

1. First try a cold restart and see if Ulead Video Studio still responds
normally.
If it does then at most you may have lost the edit in progress; if it
doesn't you might
need a code update from Ulead (assuming you have a fully paid progran
and not
a trial version). Before you call Ulead about the problem go to Control
Panel ->
System (or the equivalent for your OS) and identify which version of
Windows
you've been updated to because they'll ask (if they're even minimally
competent).
2. As an alternative to 1) auto-applied updates are generally
uninstallable (add/remove programs). It's
sometimes a bit challenging figuring out which update "broke" the
system, sometimes trial and
error is the only option.
3. You're asked shortly after installation/activation if YOU want to
enableWindows
Update, this is definitely NOT a "back door". I leave it off as a matter
of course, now
I do apply all service packs/rollups when I find out about them and the
time is appropriate
(in the middle of a video edit is definitely NOT appropriate!).
4. The situation is probably worse when you're getting an update on a
muti-CPU-enabled
OS (XP, Vista) using something like a video editor which is one of the
few applications
which may in itself be multithreaded and unsynchronized. I'll start
trusting these arrangements
when they get mature - ten years from now would probably be about right.
