   It seems to be a different hardware kit to mount the alternator to
   the engine,

I still think we're missing a bet in not using an integral alternator on
the PSRU input.  The rotary turns fast enough that a direct drive
permanent magnet dynamo should work well (provide rated output), run
forever (no brushes), and be very light weight since you don't have to
use a separate case and shaft..  The only downside of these that I can
tell is that the regulator on some of them runs a bit warmer, but that's
easily dealt with.

If 45A isn't enough to run the hog fuel pump and ignition systems, use
one of these, and then use a factory style alternator as well.

If we're going to have an electrically dependent engine (electronic
everything), a backup battery isn't as good a deal as a second
alternator - the alternator will run as long as there's gas in the tank
whereas a battery will eventually go flat.  The performance standard
should be that the engine should continue to run as long as there's gas
in the tank.
