Paul, a few weeks ago, before Oshkosh, I sent you plans for a belt
drive that was decidedly too heavy for our purposes (single rotor)
but
hoping you could engineer a weight reduction program for it--after
all
it was designed for a two rotor. I forgot to mention it when you
were here. Did you have a chance to look at the plans yet?

Not yet Jerry but here is a preliminary design.
It uses Kaydon Reali Slim bearings which cuts the weight.

What you have already done looks fantastic. The thrust off set 8.15
inches can be very useful, prop clearance, room over the top of the
engine, etc.

Thrust off set is good for certain installations but for the most part
you are better off with a planetary as that leaves room under the
engine for a cooling system.

I think it will work well for me. I installed belt driven engine
on a Cassutt. The engine( Turbo Suzuki) was later pulled and put in a
BD-5 and then I lost track of it. But it did give me some insight into
the pros and cons of thrust off set. Just a thought, maybe the rad
would fit ABOVE the engine. Steve Wittman laid the rad flat on top of
his Buick 215 powered Tailwind. Jerry
Depends on the airplane. Do a 3D and try it both ways before you commit
yourself to a belt drive.
