My wife and I are planning a trip to Norway for a meeting of
            Aviation and Women in Europe. Robin works for UAL so we fly
            standby.
            We plan to stop off in London around the 8th or 9th of Sept.
            We would like to drive to a couple of museums. Greenwich
            Nautical &
            Observatory among others. We will rent a car and stay
            outside of London.
            Last time I drove in to downtown London got fined  :) If
            anybody over
            there
            wants to get in touch send me private email.

        Greenwich is great.  Bring a picnic and eat it in the park
        overlooking
        the Thames if the weather is good...

        Hendon air museum (north London) is excellent:

        An easy Tube ride and a nice walk.

        Duxford is a great trip too:

        South of Caimbridge - an easy train and then bus ride.

        Hendon is probably slightly more interesting - an amazing collection
        of very rare German airplanes, but the train and bus ride to Duxford
        makes a great day trip through the English countryside.  Duxford
        has a
        good collection of large (mostly British) airplanes.

        I just finished the book Longitude by Dava Sobel. Great book.  I
        went off
        shore
        sailing a long time before GPS so I had to learn to navigate by
        sextant.

        Hendon is definitely on the agenda. I like to drive in foreign
        countries
        to get a close look at things. Last time we were there I drove up to
        Duxford.

    Yep..  That's exactly what I had in mind.  I really enjoyed having a
    sense of being where lots of stuff important to human history actually
    happened - imagining who had been there and looked at similar views.

cut, and visit Paris:
Nowadays, there is an aeronautic show on the "Chalps Elysées Avenue ;
until next sunday 10/12!
there are many parts coming from Air Museum of "le Bourget" (the
entrance of the museum is free during october!
On t-he show you can see the first helicopeter ever built, by Cornu,
around 1920.and the Goliath, and the Spad from World War I.

Too late. Went to London and came back. I will go again to Oxford in November 2008  for a world wide symposium on race car aerodynamics.

I love the Le Bourget museum. I was at the Paris air show a couple of years
ago and I went through the museum. Here are a few pictures.
