I have a small plumbing problem- I'm using 1 1/2" ID silicon hose for my
cooling, but I have one 45 degree bend where the hose kinks. I'm
thinking of puting some sort of bent pipe or tubing inside the bend to
keep it from kinking. I know that some cars have anti-collapse springs
in the hoses. Does anyone know of anything that will do the job in this
application?
I'm really close to having this plane running and doing some tests, this
is one of the little problems I have to figure out. I don't want to
connect teh hose to a pipe bend, because that will introduce two more
connections, and therefore two more potential points of failure.
Brian Trubee,
Rv-4, hope to finish by years end.

If you have room Brian put a short section of bent aluminum tube in there.
Also try this outfit for formed silicone hose.
http://www.samcosport.com/usa/index.asp
It is made in the UK so it is probably REAl expensive
Here is another way of doing it. Carve a male mold out of Styrofoam
and make your own hose. The foam can be removed using acetone and the
plastic
wrap stripped out.
If you had my book "How to Cool Your Wankel" you would know about this :)
Step 1: cut the form out of plastic pipe the right size or Styrofoam.
Step 2: wrap the pipe form with 10 or more layers of thick (3 mil) clear
plastic. Hold in place with scotch tape.
Step 3: wrap with one or more layers of Teflon tape sticky side out. Part
number
3M Permacel P421 3/4. There are other brands of this tape that can be
used. They
come in different thicknesses and widths. McMaster Carr calls it PTFE
Teflon
Tape. Very important to line your hose with Teflon if it is going to be
used in
an intake manifold as silicone is affected by gasoline.
Step 4: wrap with one or more layers of red silicone tape. Part number
Versaitek
Moxness 603 1 inch red sticky side out. There are other brands of this
tape that
can be used. They come in different colors, thicknesses and widths.
McMaster
Carr calls it Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Tape. I prefer the red as it is
more
likely to be compatible with red RTV.
Step 5: Cut at least two layers of fiberglass tape.
Step 6: Wet out the layers of precut fiber glass tape with red RTV between
layers of clear plastic. Strip off the plastic and wrap the saturated
fiberglass
around the form.
Step 7: Finish wrap one or more layers of red silicone tape sticky side
down. It
takes longer to describe the process than actually doing it. What you now
have
is high quality, fiberglass reinforced, Teflon lined high temp hose. See
the
attached for the step illustrations.
Paul Lamar
Paul,
Have him check Pegasus.com , they have preformed silicone hose with 90, 45,
and 120 bends .
