Hi Paul,

Do you know if anyone has converted the Rotary for running on LPG /
Propane or Compressed natural gas?
If you push the efficiency to the limit with the turbocompound and
perhaps even more with heat2power what would the BSFC then become?

BTW what units do you use when you talk about BSFC would drop from .47
to .357?
How does that translate in g/kWh?

Regards

Runs fine on natural gas. Ingersol Rand built a 1920 cubic inch
engine that ran on raw NG. They had trouble with detonating
from time to time. BMEP was 105 psi. 782 HP at 1525 RPM
83% VE. (They needed a 120% VE p-port :)) BSAC 7.9 pounds of air
per hour per HP.

Smaller Mazda based engines run fine on NG.

That would be:

(xx gm/Kw-hr)(1 lb/454 gm)(.746 Kw/1 hp)

overall:  1gm/Kw-hr  =  .00164 lb/hp-hr

I ran a rotary pickup on propane conversion years ago. It was the easy way
around the smog laws of the time. Full propane conversion made it smog
exempt. Spark plug life went way up, and it ran great. Wish I had kept that
truck, as it was a ball!
