Seen there was  short discussion on  the amount. depth and offset of
oil pan.

Was the lost oil system of the defunct RotaryAE by Nate Oldham a good
idea? bad? something like 1 gal of oil per 100 gal of fuel? metered
by a gear pump on the back of the motor through the crank.

That was a charged cooled Rotamax engine. No longer available.
Charged cooled rotary engines do not have a high pressure oil pump.
Ball and roller bearings are used instead. It is therefore necessary
to have a total loss oiling system similar to a two stroke piston engine.

Having said that it is also necessary to lube the apex seals in a pressure
fed bearing Mazda engine. Normal practice is to mix one ounce of two cycle oil with each gallon of fuel to lube and cool the apex seals alone.  Street RX8
engines have a very expensive computer controlled oil metering pump
feeding oil to the apex seals. Mazda overdid it in the 2004 to 2007 RX
engines on hind sight so I recommend mixing 1/2 ounce of two cycle
oil with the fuel. Mazda hopefully fixed the problem in 2007 with
a third oil injector for each rotor housing.

Charged cooled engines suffer from inadequate rotor cooling at high power levels  and reduced VE. Also higher BSFC. They are built that way because they are cheaper to manufacture.
