I suspect if you took two of these old
coils, mounted back to back, 180 degrees out about six
inches apart, you would need nothing else except a
powerful rotating permanent magnet. The primary
winding would act as a alternator to generate the ignition
power. I also suspect If the laminated iron core was replaced
with a long cylindrical permanent magnet the system
would work even better. The magnetic field would be twice
as strong.
