I was reading about rotary engines on the AREN and am considering
installing
one in a Series 1 Lotus Elise to replace the standard Rover K series.
Im thinking of an RX8 13B with 270Hp. In a 700kg Elise this should be fun.
Was reviewing the technical data and haven't been able to find any detail
on
the bellhousing bolt hole pattern as I will need to make an adapter plate
to
the gearbox. I notice you have quite a few CAD drawings and models/layouts
on the site and was wondering if you would have this information and would
be willing to share it.

and some pictures of the end housing.
I recommend an RX8 p-port with a Weber 48 mm carb.
300 HP at 9000 RPM. Idles as well as a 13B.

Who's drawing is that? better tell Stuart the orientation of the BH is
facing the Gearbox and the extra bolt hole of the RX8 and Cosmo is at
(approx) 78.75 deg on the Diameter of 182mm ( same as all others except for
one at 180mm) - for that orientation.
However Larry has a more accurate drawing which shows the positions as
distances from centre.

Dear Paul:
The Lotus Elise's mid-engine is transversely mounted,
not longitudinally mounted. Here is a photo of the engine bay.

Other people have replaced the wheezing Rover engine with
something more befitting the Elise. Here is a photo of
an Elise with a refitted Honda engine. It is still
transversely mounted.

* 2 litre K20A Honda Civic Type R Engine.
* Honda Civic Type-R 6 speed, close ratio gearbox.

The photos you gave us, Paul, were excellent photos
of an RX-8 engine adapted to a longitudinal drivetrain.
What do you do if you want to transplant a rotary engine,
like Stuart does, into a car with a transverse drivetrain?

It is so small it will probably fit side ways no problem.
There will be room left over in the engine compartment.
Those picture of TX's were just to show the starter
and the Mazda bell housing bolt pattern.
