Ok, I have been having some trouble/ controversy trying to figureout
how much a 4 rotor, the drive, and, well just about everything from
the firewall forward is going to weigh. I have seen some prettynice
3 rotors out there but I'm still wondering what we are looking atfor
a competitive 4 rotor with aluminum housings, weight wise??? Anyone?
By the way, if any of you are wanting to design and build your own
plane, Martin Hollmann's book "Modern Aircraft Design" is fairlyeasy
to understand and follow.

200 pounds bare two rotor aluminum block.
Four rotor 400 pounds. Add 200 pounds for misc
and you are probably looking at 600 pounds firewall
forward. The trouble is there are no aluminum parts
to make a Mazda stock three rotor let alone a Mazda based 4 rotor.
People have made four rotors with 2 rotor center housings but
it is tricky and entails custom shafts and other parts.
You might contact these people.
And see if they will sell you a KKM-508-TW 394 KW (514 HP) turbo
engine.
Weight 280 KG or 616 pounds.

I would forget the direct injection and just get the
bare engine and run it on gasoline. A LOT cheaper.

If you go with SuperTec you will be on the leading edge
no matter what. My suggestion is find a local mechanical engineering
professor partner at a local college and hire him. That will giveyou
academic credibility. Then approach Supertec as a joint development
company
promising to share all experience. You will have to write technical
reports from time to time. You can get the real help on here.
Try to find a Bell 47 helicopter final drive unit and use it as
a gear reduction. Doug has one but I am sure he does not want to
sell it.

Thanks so much Paul! This is great info. I will look into the other
engine as well. We just like the 4 rotor because the F2G Corsair has
a 4 row engine only it has 7 cylinders per row! This engine just
seems like the right one to use!

I think you got the 13B aluminum bare block weight wrong, or thisfellow
is super strong.
Next is what the Bell 47 final drive looks like in use as designed.
Amazing the final thrust bearing collar and hence the whole helicopter
is hanging on eight 1/4 " steel studs threaded into the magnesium
housing.

Here is one for you. What kind of Hp can the Bell 47 take? Normal
operating and max?

Bell engineers estimated 1000 HP at 6000 input RPM when
Dave Garber checked with Bell back in 1973. Dave Garber was
the original rotary powered airplane builder using Bell 47 gear boxes.
These are 12A engines.
