John Uptigrove's Mosquito helicopter is gaining momentum in the market.  I
believe he has already sold 200 kits (full or partial).  His XE model uses a
2 cylinder, 2 stroke 65hp engine and the XE3 uses a 3 cylinder version of
the engine and produces about 85hp.  I understand he's always checking out
alternative engines, and I suspect he's considered a rotary.

Helicopter's never have enough power, just as airplanes never go fast
enough, so I'd imagine an 85 hp rotary would be preferred.

Do you happen to know the status of the single rotor engines?  Who and what?
I went to the Rotamax site, but they don't show anything at this  time,
unless I missed something.

Thanks for the tip George. There are a couple one rotors in the works from
Europe. Diamond/Austro has delivered over 400 for motor glider use. They are
working on a larger version about 85 HP.

I took a look at the Austro rotary.  It looks quite nice, but unfortunately
it is rated at only 55hp.  What is needed (and currently offered) for the
Mosquito helicopter are two engines; one rated at 65hp and the other at
85hp. So, I guess one will have to wait and see if Austro comes up with an
85hp engine in the future.

www.wankel-ag.de also has a small two rotor around 100 HP.

And then there is Wankel Supertec but they are further away
from production I suspect. The Aero show had no less than five rotary
engine booths with engines on display.
