Paul Lamar and I have been having a discussion offline.  He feels that he is
doing more good for the rotary aviation community by continuing with this
discussion board and website than by actually finishing his plane.  I agree
completely.

I also feel that for himself, he should quit with the newsletter for a while
and concentrate on his plane.  There is nothing quite like the personal
satisfaction you get from flying the plane you built yourself.  The archives
alone should keep any new-be busy long enough for Paul to finish is plane
and join a very select few.

So what say you all?  Can we do without Paul long enough for him to finish
his plane? If so, lend some encouragement.

I have thought the same for many years.  Running this mailing list is a
24 hour job and I think Paul has become addicted to it.  He sometimes
sleep walks into the back computer room to answer posts at 4:00 in the
morning. Don't ask me how I know:)

You have done a fantastic service to everyone by organizing gobs of data,
and you selflessly answer the same questions over and over from scratch
throughout the years.   Perhaps you can give the newsletter a break for
five days of the week.  Newsletter activated for two days, work on your
plane or engine systems for five days. That will also allow messages to
be more condensed instead of having to edit ten posts you/we can only
edit one.  Questions that are answered on your webpage can be referred
there to a FAQ.  Any writing or information you would like to add but
haven't had time to assemble yet, I volunteer Dave to write them. Dave
just kidding.  I  and   others will be happy to assist you.  Give us an
assignment sense, we owe it to you. You can do the final edit of course.

I think your idea of buying a mostly completed plane and installing a
rotary is also a good cost effective approach at this point as well.
That will let you concentrate on doing what you love best, engine and
instrumentation.

 Geez, Dave, I could use a friend like you.  Could you email my wife and
tell her I need time off from the household "Honey-Dos" so I can get
started on my plane?


Paul continues to do an invaluable service for the aviation community
with this newsletter and by helping/coordinating the efforts of
others.  Reading his work here is a pleasure, but the enjoyment is always
dampened somewhat by the knowledge that Paul has been deferring his own
airplane's completion while he does this work.  I'd very much like to see
him get his own rotary-powered aircraft flying, it would be great for him
and ultimately good for everyone.  Still, if it is hard for him to quit
"cold turkey,"  maybe (as Doug mentioned) it would be possible for him to
find a way to devote far less time to the newsletter and concentrate on
documenting the work done already and maybe coordinating the work of
others (via a web page/blog/forum/etc?)to keep things going while he
finishes his plane.  The 80/20 rule.
