I am zeroing in on a turbo turbine to test for turbo compounding.

I will probably go with the turbonetics 60-1, heavy shaft and a P or Q
trim, and ball bearings.
AR undecided.  1.33 may be too large for the flows we are encountering.
Perhaps  1.15,

Your thoughts?

Housing will probably be a T4 divided but for compact fit I like the T4
center inlet housing.

Do you are anyone on here know of the disadvantages of the center inlet
turbine housing?
I assume it is not divided which is one disadvantage.  Flow is not as
direct. Others?

A/R is a trade off between back pressure and turbine HP.
At this point I don't have a handle on that.

I suggest making a turbo charger turbine dyno with a shaft torsional
deflection sensor and use a model airplane propeller or propellers for a load.

You could also use your Rotex supercharger traction drive reducer and a larger
diameter prop on the output of that. That way you can use a simple load cell on
the reducer housing torque arm to measure the prop torque.

You can measure the back pressure by using a small steel tube welded to
the exhaust pipe long enough to cool off so the pressure sensor hose is not
damaged. Teflon lined SS braid hose is good to about 650 F. There are some
more expensive SS pressure sensors out there that will tolerate higher
temperatures than the cheap plastic ones.

BTW I was recently able to extract Appendix C turbomachinery from
the huge NASA final report PDF on the Stratified Charge Rotary Engines.

Whomever decided to call the Appendix "Turbomachinery" did the entire world
a great disfavor. Who would think to search google for the key word
turbomachinery when looking for information on turbo compound rotary engines.

Turbomachinery is a broad category of machines that transfer energy
between a rotor and a fluid. Hardly specific enough to discover
what one is looking for.

Perhaps they did it on purpose to keep it secret:)
