Mistral was developing a muffler for it's rotary
engines, could be a good
source for inspiration or the mufflers them selves though
their stuff tends
to be pricey.

"developing" is the KEY work. Don't forget thats why there
Piper test
aircraft crashed last year.
Erik
I read that it was an offering from a third party. It had some
good ideas,
but they seemed unaware of the hammering effect of the rotary. A
piece came
loose and partially blocked the outlet bringing the plane
down short of
the runway. It also appeared to have been costing HP wise
even before it
failed.

Hammering is right for the loss of kinetic energy out the exhaust. Paul
has been advocating toward a turbo-compound rotary engine. So did the
NASA. Paul any more info on the discovery of the 5 rotors rotary engine
and the files? I know! It is a secret. Too bad!
Perhaps Paul's conference with the F1 guys in England will bring this
turbo compound somewhere. Perhaps Randolph, who was there as a ???, or
Paul got some feed back from the F1 guys since then. But F1 guys also
have their secrets :))
Marc Joseph
It is on going with the F1 guys. They are looking at ways of allowing
the F1 race car builders more freedom to innovate and still keep the cost
down.
Hopefully turbo compound will be one of those "innovations".
Paul Lamar
It's my understanding that Mistral was flying the Piper Arrow with a
commercially available muffler the muffler they were developing for their
engine got back burner
due to their certification push.they new the muffler they were running
wasn't good
enough and were coming up with something better.
