One strong advantage of the rotary over the reciprocating piston engine is
that there is a place to measure the pressure in the chamber just after the
intake event is completed, and the oil injector port is in that area. The
instrumentation does not have to withstand the hot gases of combustion. If
we know the instantaneous absolute pressure and temperature at that moment,
it seems we would have a very good idea of the quantity of the air/fuel
charge.
This would be true whether the engine is turbocharged or not.
This assumes, of course, that the chamber has been scavenged of previous
combustion products, and the overlap of the p-port engine helps with that
(except at idle).
I've been working toward being able to measure this pressure when we get our
engine running. But you guys have the whole instrumentation setup in place.
Could you make some runs with a substantially larger orifice and publish the
results?

Yes that is what we are doing. It works very well with Tracy's EFI and we
are making some pressure taps to screw into the holes. Yes it could be taped out for
a 1/4 pipe tap hose barb but you risk damaging the rotor housing as it is
a blind hole. The parts should be available any day.

When we get the parts I will drill out a couple and see if Mark has the
interest in trying a larger orifice.
