  Paul,   next week I will celebrate my 68th birthday.  So far it has
  been fun.

   One change I am going to make is that I will no longer supply
  complete motor mounts.

  I am very interested in supplying a kit which includes the s-beam,
 oil
  pan and rear beam ready to bolt on with the appropriate Barry
  Mounts.   This is for the 13B, the Renesis, and the 20B. I have
  templates for all these.  Once these are bolted to the engine and
the
  engine is jigged in place in front of the fuselage,  it is just  a
  matter of fitting the tubes. I have built a number of engine
 mounts in
  this manner and it is difficult to go wrong.

   BTW, while I prefer TIG welding, perfectly adequate welds can be
  done with a mig welder or Oxy/Actl.   For those who cannot weld,
 it is
  fun to learn and local community colleges have courses, the EAA is
  ready to  help, there are a ton of books and videos to show the way.
  Just practice  until your welds are good enough for aircraft,
 usually
  a couple of hours is enough.   Or a local gun slinger can be hired.

 I will hold on to the jig for a bit to see if I change my mind. I
 could not bring myself to hand it over to someone who is not a
 talented, fully committed,  rotor head.  I will be glad to discuss
the
 fixture in detail  with anyone who would like to build their own.  It
 is not a small project.

   I am convinced the best way is to use the actual fuselage/firewall
 as a fixture.  An added advantage is that with the engine parked in
 front  of the firewall, it is a good time to think about cooling,
 intake and exhaust.

 With all due respect on the welding process,  MIG welding vs TIG
 welding really shouldn't be put into the same category. To MIG weld
 4130 correctly, a fair bit of training, special welder, more training
 and a full understanding of the process should happen. Though the
 process can be made to look good, without the above in mind, would be
 hard pressed to prove that it is good.  There are a few companies
 that do have all the requirements to make this happen.. but only a
 few.

     TIG  welding has been proven, tested over time and works. The few
 things that can go wrong with TIG welding show up immediately and can
 be corrected.  MIG  induced cracks and stress points in tubing do not
 show up so quickly.

     This has been proven over and over by people far smarter than I.

 We produce many specialized aircraft parts in the shop and try to
 study all of this to full extent.

 You are welcome to your opinion,  but I have not found it difficult
 to set up the MIG welder to weld .049 wall 4130 which is the typical
 engine mount weld.  Do a few welds, test to destruction, adjust as
 required... continue this process until you are obtaining
 predictable, adequate results.  It is not a big deal. Be honest with
 your self when evaluating the test welds.

  A number FAA certified  aircraft such as the Decathelon, are built
 with MIG welding.  The FAA does not prohibit any type of welding.
 They do have standards for the RESULTS.    A 110 Volt MIG welder
 would cost about the same as a Oxy/Actl with torches and either one
 can be used to weld  aircraft.  BTW. if one is willing to practice,
 Oxy/Actl is very compelling. Thousands of EAA home builders have
 taught themselves to torch weld and have gone on to build nice
 aircraft.

I fully agree that MIG welding can be done, and yes as you said
American Champion aircraft does do this process. As well as Aviat.

As long as the new welder ( a person that decides he is going to
build an airplane) does all the things you mention for testing...then
great.. I guess the point I was trying to make, was if someone was to
take  your fixture and decide they are going to start in and build
mounts by MIG weldng them.. and do this without through testing..
that I think would be mistake.

With enough skill and process study...anything can work.

The comfort level to a known strength is highest with gas welding-
then tig- then MIG for 4130N material for new builders.

I won't say any more.
