Still going to use the vectored thrust idea Mike?

Maybe, I have the Control unit built but I'm worried about clearances as
the Engine pivots and interference with the cooling system... Several
folks have suggested that it isn't going to buy me much but it WILL add
~25 lbs. Guess I'm on the fence... What does the group think? What
performance benefits do you guys think I will gain by being able to
adjust/trim the thrust line of the engine +/- 8 deg... Other than COOL
Factor... My initial thoughts were improved TO and possible increase in
cruise speed. I'd be interested in what the group thinks?

I'll tell you what I think. It could be a major breakthrough for canard
pusher takeoff distance. Maybe even landing distances.
Especially if combined with main wing flaps. I think you can do away
with the upthrust part unless of course you want to do outside loops :)

Can you provide a little background on your rationale for the
vectored thrust idea? On the face of it, it doesn't seem like it would offer a lot.
1) Trim changes and "another thing" to be concerned about during TO and landing.
2) Complexity
3) What's the purpose? Do you tip the rea of the engine up on TO
and climbout in an effort to align the prop disc with the relative
wind, thereby increasing efficiency? If so, my guess is that the
very slight increase in efficiency would about be balanced by the
decrease in the (very slight) upward thrust vector normally supplied
by the tipped-up prop disc.
But, there would be definite cool factor if it came along with
a peformance advantage. Otherwise it is just a "wha? Huh?" factor.
