How many people on here are using Vista?

But, only because it came with the computer

It has some of the most annoying things in it, I've ever seen.
Including that completely annoying indexing system that eats processor
time and makes the HDD's work overtime slowing everything to a crawl
periodically when you really don't want it.

It has a few nice extras - but on the whole it is a really pretty much a
crap product that is slower than XP even with large amounts of RAM and
multiprocessor power.

I do spend a fair amount of time in a VMware shell in Centos Linux for a
lot of things which blows Vista away for speed even though it's
sitting on
top of it.

I don't understand why Microsoft did some the idiotic things they did,
they really don't think of how it works just how it looks.

Paul...what David said is what I've heard from people in some of the
other groups I'm in...specifically a CADD group who complained that
first, the CAD program was having problems running, second, older
versions of it wouldn't run at all, and last, Vista didn't support many
of the older large format scanners, printers and plotters that they had
been successfully using in XP for years. Vista wanted them to upgrade
all their equipment as well as their computer.

Several of them reported that they eventually converted ALL their
company computers back to XP. Even converting their new machines that
came loaded with Vista.

The problems Vista was creating were probably the reason that Microsoft
never discontinued support for XP and are rushing to get Windows 7 on
the market.  A friend of mine in Pittsburgh who works in the IT
department of Mellon Bank, is using a beta version of Windows 7, and
says that he likes it so far. He too, was upset with Vista.

So, I'm waiting until XP dies altogether (I'm committed to Windows
because of a couple of my graphic programs...Cadd, and the video
editing).  Most of my work is done with these, and it would be too much
of a hassle for an old fogy like me to dual boot or convert to Linux or
a Mac,  and learn something new, even with their ability to run some
Windows programs now.
