I'm curious about this as well. Is there a mechanical, or monetary
advantage
to this, over Tracy cook design? Can you buy a partial Tracycook unit
that
costs less? I do have a transmission laying around.

The advantage is mostly cosmetic. I am not sure Tracy will give
you much off if any for his adapter plate and spacers.

Paul, thanks for posing the pictures. As you might recall I adoing cad
work on new side hosings to work with tracy crook's redrive and am
incorporating a taller flange with added bolt holes. It appearsfrom the
pctures that the stock bellhousings areover 5" tall which wouldbe more
material (weight) than the spacers for the redrive.
I like the availability
of two starter motor locations on tracy's adapter plate and considered using
two stock starters on the six rotor by machining tha alternateloation from
the drawings I got off the newsletter. With the taller flange Ihope to
make
a more close coupled attachment to the plate. I don't seem tohave the
height of tracy's spacers and have been using 3" on the drawings. I am now
compiling the solid models and was wonderingif someone would take a dial
caliper to the spacers that would be used on an RX8 engine andpost it on
the newsleter.

The stock bell housing are super thin high pressure die castings
.125 inch in some places so they are about the same weight asTracy's 3
inch high 1/2 inch thick plate set up.

Paul, thanks for the quick response. I plan on using Tracy's 1/2" plate so
the extended flange will be heavier than the spacers in the drive kit.
Another incentive to use magnesium alloy in place of the356 T6 aluminum
for the casting. The solid model buildups are progressing although the
pattern draft is occasionally a struggle. I joined bunches of features
together in layer to make them easier to assemble and ge"inconsistant face
edge relationships" as an error and haven't yet figured out whatto avoid
doing this. All parts attempted are working out, just a little extra time
to
finish. The front mount for a "P-port" is done and I hope to get the
aluminum section of the front housing done today.

You would be better off with Solid works or Rhino. Draft features
are built into Solid Works.

I hope to borrow time on s Solidworks 2008 platform in a fewweeks.In
order to reduce the time required on someone's business computer which has a
single use license I am trying to get all I can out of my current software first.
I don't want to wear out my welcome ove there and it is 6 hours down
the road and requires motel rental. I still have rhino version 1and may try
that in a few days since it will open my dwg.files if saved under
autocad14 DFX.

Solid Works is not easy to learn. It takes years sometimes to become
really proficient. I would stick with Rhino ver 1 and get up
to speed on that. I can help you there. 3D is major leap forward.
