I have completed my exhaust flange for the Russian design square tube. Not
being an exhaust fabricating professional, I would appreciate some advice on
the fit of the tubes to the flange.
Right now, my 2' sq. tubes will achieve a friction fit, that is, they will
slide in with a little wiggling and a couple gentle taps with a hammer. Is
this too tight? About right?
Thanks, C. Smith
I am no welder but that sounds OK to me.

C Smith,
The fit does not have to be that close. More important is to leave
about 1/8" from the engine side of the flange to the tube and have
the weld done on this inside seam, I remember (from somewhere) that
welds done on the outside seem to propagate cracks in the tube. This
procedure will also lessen warping of the flange.

Thanks Dan. That's the kind of info I'm after.
