A while back I saw some advice on how to remove tape glue residue from
 a canopy... For the life of me I can't find the posting.  I was thinking
 WD40 would work but wanted to check with the group and get some advice
 on what works best.

A mixture of 3% or 5% denatured alcohol in paint thinner is a powerful
solvent for the adhesives used on tapes and labels and is harmless to
most plastics. It is sometimes used as a rubber cement thinner. Most
rubber cement thinners sold today are quite different and may attack
plastics. Try this on a scrap. Note there is some water in denatured
alcohol and some water will separate out on mixing with paint thinner.
Means nothing.

Mike, I wol lean towards mineral spirits in 3% alcohol mix above. The thing
that is imperative is that there is NO AMONIA in anything that contacts
aircraft glazing. Personally I also avoid things which have laquer thinner
ingrediants such as tolunol (sp?)
If something is soluable there are three classifiations of solvents that
work on most everything.  soap and water, mineral spirits, and laquer
thinner. I would classify alcohol in with hydrocarbons same as mineral
spirits and gasoline, and soap is in the phosphate type classification.  I
used some acrylic glazing at work and specified leaving the paper  shipping
layer on exept for the amount removed to install it. Then by the time the
equipment was installed the humidity and occasionally rain exposure would
really set he adhesive like old masking tape. We would dampen the backing
with mineral spirits and in about two minutes the backing would come off
clean. then we washed the glazing with soap and water. Leaving the backing
on kept the glazing from getting sand blasted or damaged bu tractor trailer
tarps during delivery.Most household cleaners such as windex have an amonia
ingrediant which pemanently crazes aircraft glazing on contact.
