Hard drive 2 does not work

 I used GParted to format the 2nd drive and and it shows up
 in KDisk and GParted. see the attached screen shots.


  It also shows up on the desktop but I am unable to copy files
  to it.

 Another tidbit of info

 If I plug in a different type of USB stick in Ubuntu 9 it shows up on
the
 desktop as mounted
 but apparently it is not really mounted as I cannot copy files from that
 either.

 If the stick is plugged in before I boot up it works fine.

 Is this a bug in Ubuntu 9? I have been doing that for years in Fedora 8

A file system issue? USB sticks are normally formated with FAT, but
EXT is
native to Linux.

Hi Paul;
There were a bunch of usb automount issues with Kubuntu 9.04 that were
not present in previous versions.
I upgraded one box briefly a long time ago.
A quick search on the Kubuntu forums for "usb automount" will likely
solve your problem.
It is probably "udev rule" or (the new KDE 4) interface related.

You can also try to manually "safely remove/re-open" the usb stick from
a file manager or mount/unmount from a terminal command line.

I hate sudo! Sometimes it won't let you do something and it won't
tell you why not. I like to be root all the time and then I can do what
ever I want to do. sudo is the worst kind of big brother communist control
as opposed to root laissez-faire capitalism :) It is an insult to ones
intelligence.

I think that may have been my problem copying stuff to the 2nd hard drive
in 9.04. I will say there are far more applications for Unbuntu 9.04 as they
have integrated much of the Kstuff with the Gnome stuff. Fedora is not getting
the same amount of support.
