Hard drive 2 does not work

I used GParted to format the 2nd drive and and it shows up
in KDisk and GParted. see the attached screen shots.


     It also shows up on the desktop but I am unable to copy files
     to it.

     Why?

Another tidbit of info

If I plug in a different type of USB stick in Ubuntu 9 it shows up on the
desktop as mounted but apparently it is not really mounted as I cannot copy
files from that either.

If the stick is plugged in before I boot up it works fine.

Is this a bug in Ubuntu 9? I have been doing that for years in Fedora 8

Hi Paul

are you being asked for a password ? You need to designate your  username  as
an administrator , and check the device is in fstab. The security policy in
ubuntu has a lot of default " NO " settings.

I'll agree with that. It is a pain in the butt :)
Sometimes it just won't do something and never ask for
a password or gives any indication of error.

Asking over and over again for the pass word is getting aggravating.

I'll figure out sooner or later how to deal with it.

There are some neat free programs available for Ubuntu.
