Paul,
I think the way you drew this diagram the front and rear rotor plugs will
fire at the same time and waste a spark. That is the way Mazda does it.
If we want to be kinder to our plugs, we have to separate the sensors in
the axial direction. For example one sensor is inboard and the other
mounted at least 3/4" further outboard.
Solution 1 - Two plates, with one projection each. 3/4" spacer in
between the plates.
Solution 2 - One plate but with one of the projections bent in a dogleg
to clear the inboard sensor.

Yes. You are correct. Two wheels and off set sensors fore and aft will
prevent
that.

Here is how I did it. Pictured is a lost spark for the leading plugs only
just as Mazda did it.
A rear drive trigger for two systems to run the trailing plugs.
And a front drive with both a lost spark single coil for both plugs on one
housing and a lost spark set of dual coils for both plugs in one housing.
Of course lost spark is a bit of a misnomer in this case.
The pickup was a Chrysler from any distributor. About $5.00 new. The
reluctor was a piece of 1/4" bolt pressed through the edge of an aluminum disc.
About 1/3 of the bolt is exposed. If you don't like MSD the stock Chrysler
amplifier works fine. About $25.00. However to drive two coils, probably and
MSD or similar is needed.
