 Don't take this wrong. I am not proselytizing Linux here but it
 is easier running the Linux version of Thunderbird.
 They have a more comprehensive set of import export tools.
 If you look at the left of the screen shot you will see a file
 tree showing all email messages back to 1998. All 8 gig.

Just a suggestion for uploading the mbox file, Take a look at
Sylpheed.  http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/download.html

Sylpheed can import mbox or eml files, it's lightweight, runs on Linux
and Windows, and stores the messages in MH format.  MH format has a
separate file for each message, so that if a file gets corrupted, it
just the single message that gets lost.  I have 37,624 messages in my
ACRE archive plus the 1895 messages in the main folder that I haven't
archived yet.   That only goes back to December 16, 2002.  There are
five messages dated January 1, 2001, but I think the date is screwed up
on them.  Two of them have to do with the Mistral Crash.
