Subject: nitride thickness

Does  anyone know how thick the nitriding is on the cast iron housings?  I
am
lapping the irons by hand with permatex valve grinding compound and want  to
know if  i have gone too far.  thanks for any help

Only a couple of thou. I think it is .003.

Actually .003 inches would be a very thick nitride. Some of my old sources
indicate .0005-.0015 as typical.
