I got a chance to go through the Spruce Goose Museum
 AKA Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville OR before I
 was meeting Perry Mick.

 The lighting inside the goose was not good
 for taking pictures.

Paul,
from an engineering point of view..... look how much interior volume was
lost due to the size requirements of the ribs being out of wood. And I
assume those are the wood main frames in the looking aft shot.... they are
huge! Takes up all the usable diameter in that area of the fuse!
Good thing we don't make big stuff out of wood anymore!

No doubt about it. Carbon fiber is better :)

BTW they had a P2V with turbo compound engines sitting
out front. This airplane, or one like it, set the worlds
un-refueled distance record from Australia to Dayton
Ohio back in the fifties. That record stood until Dick and
Jenna went around the world in the Voyager.

This one has been converted to a water bomber. You cannot
see the turbines as they are inside the cowl. If a R3350
has just 3 exhaust pipes it is a turbo compound. The mechanic
servicing the airplanes parked out front knew exacty what I was
talking about.
