I suggest if you are interested in this system you make
a folder and drag over all the many future messages on this
subject otherwise delete it.

We need some stand alone feed back info to the pilot on the
instrument panel when no net book is present in the cockpit.

I am thinking of using this low cost 3 inch wide by
2.5 inches high 80 character display.

It is 4 lines by 20 characters wide.

That should be plenty of info for the pilot.

The over all size of the box and panel cut out will be about 5 inches
wide and 4 inches high with switches, netbook USB connector
and a leaning knob below the display.

What do you think? What engine info would you
like to see on the display? Is the display large
enough?

These have been used for years to control all sorts of
things. Home built GPS driven auto pilot anyone?

The main difference is; ZBasic supports a much
more powerful 100 pin chip in the Atmel family.
BasicStamps seem to be limited to the 40 pin versions.

These are some of the display options that are easy to
implement shown in the attached jpg.

Get involved now and tell me what you like. Don't
come back six months or a year from now after we have
all the code and say: "Could I get a different display?"
We will be making a front panel on an NC mill so the
display chosen will fit that.

The trade off is the amount of info you get compared
to the ease of reading. The larger the display the better
but it takes up panel space. I am leaning towards
a 4 line 20 character wide display so we have more
feedback info. We can get that 3 inches wide or six inches
wide.

The display?   NITS?   sunlight readable?   I am a proponent of OLED for
sunlight viewing.  Perhaps it is my age, but my LCD instruments in
sunlight are worthless even at full contrast. The Atmel and ZBasic are
great.
