I'm thinking worst case scenario is leave the engine control functions
to the Atmel, and have a separate independant system for data acq and logging.

I think that might be a good idea. I think a sensor,
such as a manifold pressure sensor, can feed
voltage data to at least two different high input
impedance  analog to digital devices.

The more I think about it the better I like it.
What it does is greatly  simplify the software.

Use three boards. One for com to the net book
and two for EFI.

There are cheaper boards but once you pay for
the USB interface they are no cheaper.

Great I idea Craig. I am going to go for it.
I'll quite wasting time trying to cram com in one board.
It is an option that can be left off.
