I have searched this part as used locally - to no avail. I need to buy a
new one.
Is this the right one, the same as used on RD-1C ?

I think this rear unit was 3.17, not 2.85 as in RD-1C (front?)
I know that this part code topic is discussed before - just that I moved
and don't have access to newsletter archives just now. Please bear with
me :)

That looks like the rear planet carrier.
That rear planet carrier will give you 3.17 for the same
direction in and out. Ring gear held stationary.
What I think you want is the front planet carrier. 2.85:1 same
rotation direction for in and out. Ring gear held stationary.

Petri, Search words "planet set" on e-bay will bring up a some with free
shipping. You want Ford F250/F350 super duty truck or any E4OD with six
pinions in the planetary. Make sure to get the sun gear and ring gear with
the planetary as a matched set. There is contact info for "performance
parts"
available in the see other items link. I see them as low as $37.50 from
this
vender. The front planetary is 2.85 to 1, rear is 3.17, transfer case is
2.72 to 1. If you need the mainshaft or a hub just send a "note to
seller"
or you could get the entire gear set and shafts also listed from the same
vendor. JEGS speed parts has listed the 6 pinion E4OD at about $126 new a
few months ago.

I bit of resent the idea of destructing a perfectly usable planet... :)
but it seems there is no other way. [Remember Alderaan ;]
Actually, what I need is planet bearing dimensions.
They cannot be measured until all six shrunk-pressed shafts are drilled
loose. I need to know those dimensions, because in scientific text,
"sofar, it has worked ok" just won't do. (yes, this is intended to be my
thesis work...)
After done, there is a fighting chance to estimate probable power/rpm
limits of this part - Which forms the basis for all the subsequent work
with my PSRU study. Namely, if it seems that E4OD 6-pinion can be made
to work eg. 1000 hours on 99.99% probability at 500 hp cruise, there is
no need to mess around with custom parts fabrication... which would be a
great relief to anyone trying to make a PSRU for +300 hp engine.

I have a front pinion carrier right here. Shaft diameter is .455" or
about 11.56 mm. The pinion shaft circle dia. is 2.97" + .455"
Here are some ideas for you. Needle bearings are a lot cheaper
and a lot lighter than ball. It is all about load path.
What 3D program are you using? I can send some of these dwg's in
.stp, .igs or .dxf format.
