 P,

OK...  I have an extra DELL Inspiron 8000 LT computer for which
 I'm asking $100.00.

This computer is  a P-III (great processor) and is now
running Windows Me, but could easily be upgraded to W-2K.
 Here are the facts:
     a.. Windows Me
     b.. 128 MB RAM
     c.. 10 GB Hard Drive
     d.. 2 USB Ports (rear)
     e.. 1 DVD-ROM
     f.. 1 Floppy (internal)
g.. 1 LinkSys PCMCIA Wireless NIC
     h.. 2 PCMCIA Slots
     i.. 1 Telephone Modem Port
     j.. 1 Ethernet Port
     k.. 1 Mouse/Keyboard Port (round)
     l.. 1 Monitor Port (out)
     m.. 1 Docking Port
     n.. 1 Serial Port (DB-9)
     o.. 1 Serial Port (printer) DB-25

The battery has some life still.  However, if you want to
travel with it, you'll need to replace the battery.

One of the reason these things are so cheap, other than the modest specs,
is the bandits at Micro Shit tries to rob you blind for an XP upgrade
at about $200 (Fry's) and you have to call up little Billy Gates or go
on line and risk getting a virus and beg him to activate it
and allow you to borrow it.

There is also a back door to all
Micro Shit O.S.'s that your computer calls up every time you go on
the Internet. This back door, in theory, allows Micro Shit
to download the complete contents of your hard drive if they
wish. Better not break any laws as the FBI can get the data
 without a warrant.

A new Linux O.S. is free for down load as are upgrades and they come with
free software 99% of the world needs. Unfortunately the rare HyTek
Automation software I need to run is not ready for Linux yet.

On the other hand Linux may or may not run on this lap top
as lap top hardware is not standardized like PC desk tops.
My new EeePC was pre-installed with Linux.

A lot of DELL Inspirons were able to run Linux.

If you download Linux Jack and try it and it works
that would be a good selling point.

BTW the DB25 parallel printer port is not serial.

I have decided to buy an $250 EeePC with XP from TigerDirect.
No Cal tax :) No begging Billy to runb his O.S. :)
Here is a screen shot of their web site.
