I finish to renovate my new house and ready to go back on my project.
I will stay with p port intake and install turbo but i want to built my
own drive with ford diezel trans 5R110W planet gear system.
the gear system is bigger then the E40D WITH RATIO OF 2.48.-6 pinion
planet system Drum size 5"+
I look on the Slauson catalogue but i found a better price on EBAY

I intend to cruise at 6200 rpm approx and i would like to know the HP at
this rpm for rx-8 pport and turbo.
i will also appreciate your comments

I think that gear set is overkill and too heavy.
Several people have used the A4OD set with three rotors.
One with a turbo 3 rotor. The ratio is not as good
as it is only 2.48 rather than 2.85.

Send me a dwg of the rest of the gear box.

The HP you get will depend on the boost. The fuel
burn will determine that at cruise. Figure a half pound
of fuel burned for every HP you choose. Fuel weighs
about 6.25 pounds per gallon.

P-port 2 rotors have been easily boosted to 400 HP
or more. Obviously you don't want to burn that much
fuel at cruise.

6200 rpm and 13B-MSP 4-port NA ... 140-150 hp? According to dyno curves.

The trouble with 350+ hp and E4OD planet is, that we - still - don't
really know how _long_ it will last.

There's three points to look:

- How much surface pressure on tooths
- How much bending force for tooth
And most important:
- How much force and speed on roller bearings inside planets.

I try to do this "homework" - sometime soon...

If it seems that on eg. 400-500 hp cruise it lasts 150 hours, there is
still a couple of tricks to use:

- Proper gear oils, separated circuit with pump and cooler.
- Surface-treating the planet gear and bearings. Difficult to do
afterwards, but after-treatment compounds (like RVS) could help.

Could be still cheaper than custom gearset. But how much...

I don't think anybody is going to run it at 350 HP continuous.
175 pounds an hour is 28 gallons an hour.

The GAP PSRU I purchased used was modified to pressure oi feed the planet
rollers. The previous owner had planet roller and shaft life of less than
200 hours in front of a 6cyl Subaru. I think the problem was that the input
shaft was not well supported and the sun gear was moving around, thereby
affecting the planets too. I agree that post treatment could be a good
idea. I would use synthetic gear oil as well (plug for Amsoil). :)

The GAP is very poorly engineered with the prop shaft too short
and consequently the huge closely spaced ball bearings needed
are way too heavy.

Also it is very difficult getting your money back from
a foreign company Canada included.


The Ross is a far better design but no longer
available. Tracy's is also a better design but
not as good as the Ross IMHO.

Tel me how the driver shaft is attached to the sun gear on
Tracy is pressure fit ,welded or others??
i still waiting the shipment of gears

Pressure fit and then two welded in 1/4 or 5/16 pins welded
in 90 degrees apart. He used to use one and Dave Leonard
broke it with his turbo.
