Paul,
I am a french airline pilot and also a proud owner of 2 planes, a rare
PZL TS8 "bies" warbird and a Vans RV4.
My concern is about the RV4 : I want to install a rotary engine. I am
going to deal with Tracy, from RWS for PSRU and engine management but I
need your skills for engine choice and cooling.
I have bought your book, "how to cool your wankel" and Tracy "aviator
guide to mazda rotary conversion".
Here in Europe, [Mazda] rotary engines are not used even for planes and cars,
so I am going to buy parts and engine from USA and I need to be
accurate to avoid mistakes.
I saw in your book very aerodynamic cooling of the RV4, like those of
Mike Wills. At what point can we buy?
If you were me, what engine and cooling would you use?
Thank you for your help and congratulations for your work.
Best regards,
Jacques
There is a guy in Europe building a Breezy I met at Aero in April.
He is using Tracy's gear box and EFI. You should contact him. I'll
dig up his name and email address. My friend Alex may have his
biz card.
He is a horn player in a symphony orchestra. I think he is on the
list but I'll try to find his address when I get back home to Cal.
I am in Nebraska right at the moment.
I would use a p-port Renesis engine AKA RX8 with a 2.85:1 gear
box. You would have about 250 HP for take off.
We also have a young man in Ljubljana racing a Mazda P-port.
I'll be at Aero again next year if possible. Wife worked for UAL :)
We have a rotor head meeting every year on Friday night.
More about this later.
