   Too bad I'll have to get a new set of RX8 coils and put them
   on the test stand. If you have a set could you give me
   the part number printed on the side of the coil and what
   year you bought them?.

   I want to find out if I have the old or the new RX8 coils.

  I have a set of coils that came with my 2005 renesis engine that I did
 not
  use.  I am using the Denso coils that I had with the 13b.

  Check the bottom of the RX8 coils. If they look like this they
  have already been overheated and probably will fail shortly.
  When I took this off my car about an hour ago I freaked out.
  My 2004 RX8 only has 30,000 miles. According to the Internet
  I just dodged the new engine bullet.

  All you people out there with early RX8 car's change out the coils
  for the later versions. Mixing oil with the fuel will only help.
  It will not fix the problem.

  If you are flying with early RX8 coils watch out.

  Rino are using the RX8 crank angle sensor and trigger wheel with
  the Denso coils?

  The part number on the coil from my RX8 is;
  N341 18 100
  A10-1355
  3627

  The last number appears to be the serial number
  as it is the only number different than the coils on
  the test stand engine.

  I have a new set ordered from Pep Boys so we will see
  what is different.

 No discoloration on the bottom of the coils that I can see.
 It is from a 2005 RX8 with 500 miles on it.

 The 500 miles could be the reason. It seems to happen around 30,000
 miles. Also that serial number (4609)  may indicate they could be
 the second gen versions. I'll know more when the new ones
 come in and I get the part numbers off them.

 Do you happen to know what dwell time Tracy is using for the
 RX8 coils?

I have no idea of the dwell time and I cannot find it in the manual.

I may have made a mistake by stating Denso coils.
The 4 coils I presently use are AC Delco igniters used on the LS-1 Corvette.
The number is (d580).   They run fine with the EC3 controller I have.

Paul, look at the included photo.  I used a cross-over pipe to connect the 4
intake runners at one time, to shorten the runner length, not on the present
intake manifold.   Do you think that same setup would inprove my present
intake manifold to raise the peak horspower rpm a bit.

I have some 580/s made by Denso.

The dwell times appears to be about 20 millisecond at start time.
We shall see at higher RPM when I get this thing running.

No telling what is going on in there. You need my high speed
data acq with the 1 ms pressure sensors :)

Just build a big plenum with a hole in it for the oil filler.
Make sure you use bell mouthes on the end of the runners.
I think I may have some left at $5 each.
The runners should be about 22 to 18 inches my guess.
The data acq would tell the tale. Apparently the side ports
don't resonate as well as  p-ports.
