Subject: Mechanical Fuel Pump on a 13b

Was there ever a provision for a mechanical diaphragm style fuel pump
on a Mazda rotary?  Suitable for filling a carburetor float bowl?  I
looked through on line catalogs for early Mazda rotary powered
vehicles, and only found electric pumps listed.  Is there a place to
put a fuel pump eccentric on the engine?

Regards,

Matt-

I had one of the earliest cars in 1973 and it had an electric pump.
It would have to be belt driven.

Matt,

Are you running a 13B or RX8, there is provision for a pump
If you are RX8. You can use the drive for the apex seal oiler
If you use premix in the tank instead. I am thinking of doing it
With my RX8, it will require a machined block to suit.

Chris in NZ.

That is a great idea Chris.

This outfit has all sorts of mechanical fuel pumps.

Chris, this is an excellent idea and with an out board ignition system no
electrics are required to operate the engine, with a hand primer you could
hand prop it and do away with the starter. Mod the engine Paul, I will
spring for the mod if it is not too expensive.

I will when I get time. I sold the KIS Cruiser and a firewall
forward turbo engine package for it and I am getting that ready to
ship. I bought Mike's RV4 so I need money to pay for that
and space in the hangar to house it. I also need to pick it up
in Minneapolis and tow it down here.

The C182 is up for sale as well. All this takes time.

I have your test stand almost ready to start. I am waiting
on some more wire of the right side. I think the EFI plumbing
needs redoing too. Once we get it running with Tracy's system
as a base line then we can try some other simpler ideas.

I need a couple of self clones :)

Thanks all for your thoughts on the fuel pump.

Regards,

Matt-
