I received an auto trans starter with the RX8 engine set I purchased
recently. Is this the starter I will need when I mount the bell housing
or the necessary parts for mounting the redrive?
I have sold most of the non essential parts from the engine set and by
doing so it has paid for the initial price for the engine as a whole.
Thanks for the tip on selling the oil injector pump.
I have 4 of the yellow injectors and two of the reds. If I P-port this
engine I will not likely need them. The yellow are about 44lb I believe.
For the p port I will likely use one 80lb for each runner, with an extra
as backup for each runner. If four 40lb injectors are good for 300hp,
then doubling the flow rate for each injection point, and using only two
should suffice. Past experience using 40lb injectors on the 944 turbo
gave us 300 plus hp. I could use 90 or 100lb I guess. Does'nt seem
necessary.
If I use the yellows, I would need 8. This would be cheaper, but much
more plumbing.
I have yet to decide where I want to mount the injectors. The apparent
standard position upstream 18 inches or so from the intake port gives a
good chill to the intake charge. A plus if we want to get more expansion
out of the combustion process. The temperature drop caused by the
vaporizing fuel could be used to help cool other intake components, like
the intercooler or even the turbo. Reading your comments about the
frozen intake tubes tells me there is some wasted air density by letting
the tubes get so cold they that they draw heat from the air around them,
instead of from the intake components. There must be a "best" system
temperature to aim for when designing the intake.
I have the stock red injectors also, but do not know their flow rate.
They look to be about 1/2 the yellows, so putting them upstreem
someplace may be best.
Your thoughts?
I don't plan on boosting much above 30hg. The p ports by themselves
should give good take off power. It appears aircraft engineers use
inches of mercury when stating pressure. I am accustomed to using Bar
because I work on turbocharged german cars, or boost numbers in pounds
when using turbo jargon. But since hg is similar in it's usage, because
it starts at absolute zero. It is easy to make the switch from Bar.

The auto tranny starter is not what you want as it mounts
differently than the manual tranny starter. Unless of course
you are building your own gear box.
You only need 4 yellows.
44 pounds is 7 gallons an hour per injector or a total of
28 gallons an hour. More than enough for 250 HP.
That is 176 pounds of fuel per hour. At a BSFC of .60 full rich
that is 293 HP. You can always get a bit more by jacking
up the pressure regulator. 60 pound Siemens are interchangeable.
I use two per P-port runner as a bit of redundancy. Tracy's
EFI system has a limp home mode to handle an injector failure.
He doubles the remaining single injector pulse width.
You will be cruising at 10 to 12 gallons an hour.
