BTW has anybody run Mobile One in a turbo engine?
I would think it ideal as it is good to 500 F while
regular mineral oil starts coking around 250 F.

Yes, I have been running Mobile One from Day One in my 20B with Garrett
TE-06 turbo.  Seems to be working fine.  My only concern is with its
lead-scavenging ability when I have to use 100LL.  IIRC, that was the
problem that caused Mobil to withdraw Mobil One from the aircraft market.

Thanks Tom.
Do you know use aviation oil?

Paul Lamar

Not yet.  What would you recommend?

Tom

Tom, Explain lead scavenging to me. What happens if you don't scavenge the
lead in a piston engine?

Paul Lamar

Hi Paul and all,  The lead problem with Mobil 1 may not apply to Wankels.
Aircraft engines have very poor ring seal.  A lube specialist said 10 to 15
% of the fuel goes past the rings into the crank case. Oil goes  up to the
combustion chamber too.  That is why aircraft oils have to have special
clean burning additives  (AD) compared to auto oils.  Synthetics do not
hold the lead crap in suspension as well as mineral based oils for draining
at oil change time.  Crap builds up over time and can cause wear and
eventual oil system and consequent engine failure.  Not good.  I think
Mazda has done a good job of keeping fuel out of the oil so it should not
be a problem.  I have used some custom blended oils and upper end
lubricates with good results but have not discussed them for the Wankel.
I'll see what my contact has to say sometime this week and report.
