The attached picture is from my single rotor PP engine after about 10
hrs running time. Most of the time was running at WOT and 6000RPM. fuel
flow was around 8gph.
If this an indicator of mixture distribution at ignition, what does it
mean? if anything. Has that been observed by anyone else?

What are the details of your cooling system Todd? Stock water and pulleys?
Hose size to rad and from rad? where are you measuring the water temperature?
The coolant water temperature is not the whole story.
If it is a stock cooling system and the temperature is within limits
you might want to modify the rotor housings. You only need to do this around
the lower spark plug.

Do you have an idea how the slots in the water housings are made. By hand I
assume but the tool bit would need some sort of gauge to prevent it from cutting
too deep.

I think you are referring to this picture.
You will be able to tell by the sound of the cutter when it hits
the steel liner :) I don't think anybody would attempt that with out
the help of an NC mill.
BTW it never ceases to amaze me how the rotary can survives abuse.
People plumb the cooling system with too small hose and get away with it.
They use electric water pumps that have one tenth the coolant flow and get away
with it. Consequently the engine has severe oil coking on the rotor housing wear
surface due to these mistakes and it keeps running with a hardly noticeably drop
in power.
You have to melt the steel liner in the rotor housing to kill it :)
That can be done too and I know a couple of people that have done it :)
