I do not know of any rotary powered airplanes damaged at Sun N Fun, but
I don't know all of the "casualties".
Charge cooling does have the advantage of simplicity.... but if
simplicity doesn't work.....

The preponderance of the evidence so far is charge cooled rotors does not
work well enough for high duty cycle rotaries. The other draw back to
it is the volumetric efficiency is reduced.
Austro Engines has had some luck with air cooled rotors at the expense of a
lower BSFC. It takes HP to run the required blower. About the best number
I have seen for the Austro is .52 while the Mazda can get down to .47
The Mazda of course uses oil cooled rotors. The oil cooling is one third
of the total cooling for the engine.
