Randy Lewis's turbo charged 12A one rotor.
  Handy in the Alps.

  Thanks Randy,

I will consider the Turbo version, my problem is the weight I would

like to not exceed the weight of a Rotax 612 100 Hp, my idea was to

have something very compact and very light someone told me about the

Mid-West Walken Engine AE 110 Hawk but it seems that the

Bombardier / Rotax have over the company.....the result is that

we have only the 4 Cylinder Rotax and bye bye the Walken compact and
powerful engine.

How much will be the weigh of a complete avio 12A engine ? ...maybe

using different gearbox ? At the end I think that I will prepare the

engine in CA and when ready send to Italy from there. In US you have

much much practical knowledge applied to aviation engines that here
in Italy.

  for Paul

I am born in Latina close to Rome, but I am living North Italy.

Somma Lombardo (Varese) around Maggiore Lake. When you will arrive in

Italy you have 3 chance one is Rome, second Milan the other is Pisa I

guess with Delta Airlines.

My brother is in LA in the next 1/2 week, maybe I will jump on a

plane in few days and came to you, I need to see and understand to

evaluate all possible options.

You can save about 14Kg by buying aluminum end housings from
Racing Beat.  http://www.racingbeat.com/RX7-1993-1995/Rotor-
Intermediate-Housings.html

Quite expensive at about $1500 each. You will need two. A turbo is
about  5 Kg but it saves the weight of a muffler which would;d be
almost as heavy.  The other advantage is it does not stick out into
the air stream and cause drag.

I understand that Paul,

but before starting to think to how save in Kg., I need to know from
you guy how much will be the weight of a complete 12A Avio engine
and a 13B..., than I can think to save in Kg.

... Let me know please.

nb. I am thinking to flying to LA in 2/3 days, and I will came to
see you Paul, we can talk much better.

Firewall forward a two rotor 13B come in about 145 KG
Subtract  about 34 KG for aluminum end housings. (There are 3.)

A one rotor FW 13B 114 Kg more or less. I am guessing here.
Subtract 23 Kg for aluminum end housings. (There are only 2)
A single rotor 12A would save only about 5 Kg

Another advantage of the 13B base engine is parts availability. The 12A has
been out of production and some parts are no longer available. HP is pretty
much the same. For a small weight penalty you get parts anywhere, almost.
