   Paul,

If the 720 CID class is running about 700HP from the turbo O-520/550
   recips
and an eight with possible 1,000HP; Would the 3 rotor be
   competative? The RB
engine at 900HP with Al end housings should be lighter. When the
   powers that
be governing Reno said rotaries would be limited to three rotors,
   was there
   a
stipulation they had to be Mazda dimensions? Just thinking.

   Dale Davies

I don't have any details. It is just hearsay at this point.
I think with the right gear box one could get 1000 HP from
a turbo 3 rotor for 15 minutes. The Bell 47 final drive box might do it.
The aircraft it is in must be available to the public as
a 2 person aircraft so that pretty well limits the choice
   to a Nemesis Nxt.

   Paul Lamar.

Lee (president of sport class) has opened rotaries to any number of
   rotars
as long as you meet the cubic inch restrictions using the 2x SCCA
   formula.
This puts a 4 rotor at 5200CC or approx 317 cubic inches (less than
   half of
the requirement. Sport Class is in a state of change right now, as Super
Sport is being combined with Sport. There may be other changes coming
regarding prop design and governors due to the number of engine over
   speed
problems last year (5 engines lost to overspeed/runaway props).
And yes, the project is already under way....
   Larry

Larry is right,  There is no mention in the rules about rotarys,   For
this year, the ONLY engine stipulation is that it have less than 1000
cu, in. displacement.  So a 4-rotor could be very competitive.

Just for S & Giggles, I am bringing my plane to the racing school in
June and may even bring it to race in Sept.  I will most likely get last
   place, but should be fun.

The aircraft does not need to be a 2-place, but it does need to be a
'Kit" or a long EZ variation.  That being said, it is clear the fastest
kit out there is the NXT.  I think a turbo 4-rotor in an NXT with ADI
injection, spray bar cooling, and a tight cowl would have every chance
of being up there with Relentless and Nemesis and the fast Thunder
   Mustangs, Ventures  Glasairs and Lancairs.

Another option might be to try to fit a turbo 2-rotor into a Cassutt or
similar formula one aircraft (used in the sport class), or a turbo
3or4-rotor into a glassair or lancair.  Think lancair 360 or leggacy
   with a turbo 3-rotor.

I agree that the biggest issue currently seems to be gearbox for that
application, not to mention someone and some $$$$ to pull it all
   together.

Dave,  I read somewhere that the NXT kit is no longer being sold.  If
that turns out to be the case would that disqualify the flying examples
from competition.  Does anyone know if plans built qualifies or does it
have to be an assembly kit.
