I got a virus this morning that cuts across O.S.'s
I think it was a Czech prop web site. I could be wrong.
In other words it only affects Thunderbird and not the O,.S.
Works the same on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Took me a couple of hours to figure it out and fix it.

What it does is corrupt your address book.
Thunderbird will not email anything if there is one area
of corruption in your address book.

You cannot see the corruption by merely looking at the address book
while running Thunderbird.

One must export the bad address book as a .ldif  to a safe place such
as a USB chip and then delete it out of Thunderbird.
Now load the bad address book ldif file from the USB chip
into a plain text editor. Read the address book and see all
the records.

It will look like this small sample. The center record is the
corrupted record. It is always the same.
Delete the corrupted records. There could be half a dozen
or more. Save the fixed address book with a new name on
the USB chip. Now import it back into Thunderbird.
