Suspension mounted no less. That very desirable feature has yet to be
successfully implemented in Formula 1.  Yes they built some suspension
mounted wings but the engineers (Colin Chapman among others) did not
understand the structural principles so they failed.  World F1 champ Phil
Hill driving.  Engineers working for race car companies like Chaparral in
those days did everything as needed including *schlepping tires, taking the
driver to the hospital if needed and putting out fires during pit stops :)
You think I am kidding.  Phil Hill got appendicitis just before the Sebring
Race so yours truly drove him to the hospital.


The composite wing picture is the first wing I built after I left
Chaparral. It was built for Nick Craw, one time FIA vice president,
SCCA president and head of the Peace Corp at the time.
Nick reported he donated it to the Smithsonian but I have
never seen it on display. As I recall it had vacuum molded thermo
formed ribs. Nick set lap records all over the country in Formula
B that still stand. The joke is there is no more Formula B :)
