   If you drove this with a 1 to 1 cog belt drive a very simple outboard motor
   type CD ignition could be easily added by swapping out a couple of coils
   180 degrees apart for 300 volt units.

Two of these with modified for CD ignition one for top plug and one for bottom
plug would give dual independent ignitions and alternators.
One or two cog belts.

There is no regulator inside the unit
so an external regulator will be required as they are designed for low RPM

I am not sure they will run to 7500 RPM so test them in a safe way because they
could blow up. A wrap of carbon or Kevlar uni would be a good idea.

Tom, are these new or used? Are they guaranteed to work?

All:

  They are units that have come back for Isuzu warranty consideration. All were
on new engines and if the battery is hooked up backwards on installation the
regulator will pop. These have the add on regulator that are screwed on the
back. They have been tested and match the same ohm readings thru the coils as
well as to ground. They test the same as a brand new one. I will warrantee them
for 90 days. The external regulator that works on the Kubota, Yanmar and Isuzu
will work on this. I am sure Paul can come up with a $10 regulator that will
work with it. We also have new take off's that were removed to convert the
engine to 24v for $150 that will include the regulator and a mating plug plus a
wiring diagram. Without a regulator it weights 4lb and with 4 3/4lb.  I have
sold a bunch to the Corvair crowd. If you have any other questions I would be
glad to answer them. If Paul would like I will send him one for inspection and test.

   Craig smith implied that I was trying to hide something, I take no offence
to it. I would like to set the record straight. I thought I was replying to the
Honda post for used parts. I thought by offering the group something  that I
believe is better and currently available on the market rather than a used 70's
set of coils for a Honda or the outrageous price of Harley parts.

  I see I screwed up when I offered Paul a unit to test, I need to send him a
complete one to compare readings. So the offer is for 2 units. The manufacture
is Kokusan Denki part# GP9905 and Isuzu part# 8970489701. If there is any other
info anyone would like I would be glad to provide it.

No offence intended. I didn't see anything about these coils, so I wanted
clarification about condition.

Tom sent me a couple to test.
I set one up in the CCM and it put out 9 volts AC at about 5800 RPM.
15 volts AC at 9840 RPM. This unit is best used with a belt drive.

You will need some diodes to convert the AC to DC.

It could be used direct drive as part of the flywheel if you re-wound
the coils with slightly smaller wire. Voltage would go up at 5800 RPM
but there would be a slight loss in current output.

As a source of 300 volts for a CD ignition system perhaps one or more
custom wound coils mounted on the outside of the magnet drum would work. The magnets are very powerful indeed. When you turn it by hand you can feel the magnetic attraction for the metal coil cores.

Tom also sent me one with attached diodes and voltage regulator which
I have not yet tested.

The unit weighs about 4 pounds which is half the weight of the
stock Mazda RX7 alternator however the current output is half too.
