I can record your conversations.

 Fully streamlined as it is inside the canopy.
 No gnd plane required because it is a dipole.
 The 1/2 inch T6 aluminum tube is clamped to the
 canopy cross brace so it moves (tilts) with the canopy
 and contains the coax feed cable. Holds the heavy balun
 in place no matter what.

 We shall see how well this works.

Hi Paul;

My take on your new VOR antenna is: It will probably work well for signal
from the front, Probably not quite so well with signal from the rear because
of all the metal back there and very poorly for signal from the sides. The
elements being tipped down dipoles, there is usually very little if any
received energy on the ends of dipole elements and when they are tipped down
they are cross polarized to the signal.
What type of balun is used? If it is a Ferrite transformer they are pretty
lossy also.  All of my antennas except the Transponder use what is called a
Gamma Match so they don't need a balun. I will attach a paper explaining it.
My Transponder antenna uses a tapered balun which is efficent also.

Would you like me to send you one of my wing tip VOR antennas. Maybe I could
bring it to you. I am based at Compton, used to be at Torrance but they
threw me out of my hangar to build the Helicopter factory.

I know nothing about the balun as it is potted.

If it works some what in the receiving mode I'll get a VSWR meter and
check it.

I am attempting to use it as a com antenna. If it does not work I will give
up and put a conventional com antenna on the bottom skin between the gear.
