We have a plan to install an ignition/alternator stator under a thin
flywheel prior to a standard flywheel as illustrated here. The one shown is
just for illustration and is not large enough in diameter. We need a stator
@ 7 inches in outside diameter with the the appropriate flywheel.
We have talked to a stator manufacturer who will build us one like we need
but he wants a bag full of gold.
Dimensionally it will fit and function as required.

What we ask is if anyone knows of a thin(@ 1 inch thick) stator @ 7 inches
in diameter with @ 5 inch ID already in existence so that we do not have to
cough up that bag of gold. The manufacturer says his design will fit in the
cavity and not disturb the remaining stackup of the drive.
The ID of the stator shown is @ 4.5 inches.

If we can approximate the dimensions required of the stator, I am told the
any stator can be rewound to accommodate both ignition and 10 amp
alternator. I must confess I am not sure about the electrical aspects, but
am fairly certain we can mechanically accomplish the installation. Right now
our mission is to show mechanical fit.

That looks cool Milo.  There are dozens of stator designs for out board
motors and some motorcycles. Check out the one for Harley's. Pictures
attached here.

It looks about the right diameter. It lacks high voltage coils for CD
ignition
but it should put out enough current for stock RX8 coils. All you would need
is a small sealed lead acid battery.

BTW I need the room in my hangar for the RV4. When do you plan to retrieve
your
RX8 motor test stand/trailer. I'll throw in the RX8 heat sink mount and
wiring for
free. The wiring is not quite done but close.
