I searched high and low for Unbuntu but maybe I need to switch back
to red hat.

My current Ubuntu is a couple of years old.

If you do decide to swap over to Fedora I suggest you install Fedora 14.
Leading edge is okay but I'm just a bit uncomfortable with bleeding
edge.  I always stay one release back from the current release.  I
figure that most of the problems will have been found and fixed in the
six months between releases.
