On another note, I have located a new upper wing for my Glass Goose to
replace the one that was eaten up by the alcohol in ethanol gas. I'm going
to replace the wing and get 'er flying myself. I'm sure glad the Renesis ran
like a top. It'll give me motivation to get it going again after I finish a
SeaRey LSX.

Sandy, I understand that Briggs and Straton have an alcohol test kit
for auto gas. Â Rumor has it high test auto gas in some areas does
not have alcohol.

I was talking with Rich Martin the other day and he spoke with a gas tanker
truck driver who said
that as far as gas goes costco gas has the best additives. don't know if
they also add ethanol.
Might be worth a look.

Hopefully, after the election the Republicans will can the ethanol fiasco.
It's costing us at the dinner table because of the increase corn pricesto
feed livestock, not to mention the damage to our engines and hoses.

growers (and now the corn fermenters/distillers) now fund the right
people on both sides of the aisle to keep this going forever.

Been reading this gasoline/alcohol thread, and it just occured to me, that
the way the test kit works, also seem to be the key to take alcohol away
from fuel.

It would be a fairly simple affair actually.

The test is based on the principle that alcohol and water mix,.... alcohol
and gas mix,.... but water and gas don't mix.

Plus, what will not mix...will stratify, into two different liquids, intwo
layers with the most dense on the bottom, the alcohol/water mix in the
bottom, and gasoline on top.

If there is alcohol in the fuel, you will se an even mix, but if you ad
water, the alcohol will now leave the mix with gasoline and instead mixwith
the water.

The test is basically that you take 10 units of gas, and one unit of water.
There is a mark on the test tube, where you fill it up exactly with water,
then you fill up the rest , to the next mark with the gasoline you wantto
test, Â shake it, and let it settle, once it settle, the new stratified
liquid in the bottom, will be the water and alcohol mix, and depending on
how high up the water/alcohol mix goes in the test tube, compared with when
the level that was pure water, it will now determine how much alcohol there
is in the fuel.

It just occured to me...you have just now removed the alcohol from the
fuel....and it is now together with the water sitting in the bottom, ready
to be drained, and the rest on top , is fuel without alcohol.

Would you have 10 gallons of fuel, ad one gallon of water, and stirr it
briskly for a minute or so, and let it settle, (...I have seen in  the
test...it stratifies very quick,) you would get the same thing, Â drain out
the water/alcohol mix in the bottom and it should be alcohol free fuel.

That will work. Â You will have to add an octane booster to
get back what the alcohol contributed.

That technique will reduce the amount of alcolhol in the gas, but one such step will not remove all of the alcohol. The alcohol 'partitions' between the water phase and the gasoline phase, so to remove a higher percentage, you need to do several steps -- add water, mix, drain water/alcohol phase; -- add water again, mix drain water phase. The number of times youneed to do this is a function of how low you want the alcohol content to be.

The other point already made is that the octane will be reduced when you remove the alcohol.
